Uretiti Beach
The Marsden Point Oil Refinery is located just inside the point to the north of Ruakaka beach. Ruakaka is north of Uretiti Beach.

There is generally a lot of ships servicing the refinery and this will influence how far out you set your gear.

Smaller boats are prevalent in the area in summer.

We have had plent of excellent reports for this beach, links to some of them are featured below.

Catch

A real hot spot in summer for good sized snapper and kingfish. Snapper and gurnard are common winter fish with the occasional john dory taken on floating baits. Kahawai are caught year round.

If using livies the best bait is a live mackerel or even a small kahawai, if you are lucky enough to catch one from the beach. Floating baits using floating bead traces are excellent for targeting john dory as the bait is presented in a natural way.

Uretiti is a busy beach in summer.

Overcast winter days or evening fishing here is by far the most productive as the larger snapper come close to shore to munch on the larger shellfish which are inedible by the smaller snapper.

Winter fishing can be excellent and the beach is generally quieter than in summer.

Snag Report

September 2002

Robbie Cullen and Peter Berry report a snag on Uretiti Beach. The snag is 2.4 kilometres to the right from the end of Tip Road. It is just before the river mouth.

The snag is a very old boat around 20 feet wide. It is only visible at low tide. At high tide it is approximately 30 metres out from the beach.

Robbie advises fishing at least 50 metres either side of this snag.
