New Zealand Coastal Weather Forecast

Buoyweather is the digital weather station Paul uses to plan his long range kite fishing trips.

The three day weather forecast below is free.

If you would like more detailed 14 day weather forecasts and predictions you will need to subscribe.

Subscribers get sea surface temperatures, swell heights, rain and much more.

I think they offer a free months trial subscription, check while you are there!

Click Any Point for a Full Forecast for the Location.

Wireless Weather Station Marine Forecast Map

The best part about subscribing is you can get an e-mail, or wireless weather station forecast sent to you anywhere on land sea. Simply click on the point on the map where you want the weather forecast for, and a real time three day wind and swell forecast will be generated for those coordinates.

Paul subscribes to the buoy weather station and has a "Go Kitefishing at Muriwai" e-mail sent to him when the wind is forecast to be over 10 knots and under 60 knots while blowing anywhere between northerly and southeasterly.

Usually Paul gets five to seven days notice of approaching kite fishing opportunities without having to constantly check the weather, the forecast is quite reliable out to three or four days and becomes less accurate in proportion to how many days ahead you are forecasting.

Wireless Weather Station V/s Flag and Clouds
A weather forecast is one thing but Paul doesn't head out fishing before checking what the wind is actually doing.

He always checks the direction, and speed the clouds are moving, before leaving home.

Another option is to check out the wireless weather stations around the country.

There are lots of stations to chose from.

Take care which ones you use many of these stations are situated in wind shadows and drastically underestimate wind speed.

If you are going to set up a home digital weather station, make sure it is on high ground and in clear air. If we lived on higher ground I am sure Paul would get a wireless weather station capable of sending text messages or emails to those who need the information.

Just imagine, a home weather station, automatically sending text and e-mail alerts when pre-selected conditions arrive, it just might get us all out fishing more often!
